Midcentury Style and Mediterranean Essence in This Barcelona Restaurant
Notris restaurant fuses the Mediterranean essence of Barcelona with a distinctive midcentury style throughout its interior design, resolved across two floors with bespoke furniture and tropical motifs.
With the Mediterranean of Barcelona as a backdrop, Notris is a restaurant that fuses midcentury style with a distinctly tropical feel, without sacrificing maximum use of space or, of course, good food. The transformation of a former office into a "magical and fun place just steps from the beach of the Catalan capital" was carried out by designer Victoria Belousova of Victoria Interiors. "The goal was to design a gastronomic space for family lunches and dinners, which made the selection of durable and hard-wearing materials essential — including Contract furniture, ceramic flooring, a Neolith counter, and skirting boards and boiserie by Noël & Marquet. One of the most important challenges was adapting the client's tastes and the studio's ideas to the strict regulations governing a recreational space. It was necessary to find room for each of the many pieces of restaurant equipment — pizza oven, refrigerators and freezers, griddles, extractors, and more — which meant making the most of every square metre to seat as many diners as possible without overcrowding the space." For the renovation of the 250 square metres spread across two floors, Belousova designed all the furniture on a bespoke basis, manufactured exclusively for this restaurant, with standout pieces including marble tables with brass detailing, retro-style chairs upholstered in durable leather, midcentury lamps, and a tropical-motif wall mural. "The midcentury style brings character and sophistication to this space, while the botanical motifs create an eco atmosphere that makes you feel immersed in nature," the designer continues. Various shades of green, black as a counterpoint with touches of gold, and carefully chosen pieces — such as a wood and wicker sideboard and floral motifs distributed throughout the space — recreate the comfort of a family dining room without sacrificing a very personal style, where each area flows naturally into the next without any one overpowering the others, creating a calm visual line that invites you to enjoy not only the food, but the space itself.
